10/12/09: More Speakers Announced

2010 Conference Speakers

 

NDS and DPV are pleased to announce yet another speaker for the “From Strength to Strength” conference.”  We have secured Lloyd Williams, State Secretary of HSUA.

HACSU members work in a variety of service settings and are employed in a range of occupational classifications including tertiary qualified and certificated nurses, health professionals, disability centred workers, program and support workers, trades and administration.  HACSU represents the majority of staff employed in psychiatric, intellectual disability and alcohol and drug services in Victoria.

 

Lloyd is the Senior Elected Union Official, responsible for the general conduct, administration and business of the Union, including coordinating staff, all union campaigns, strategies, and the union’s budget.

 

Lloyd along with Jonathan Gray (Worksafe Legal Advisor), Patrick Owl (VMIA) and Phillip French will be debating the completing or complementary obligations of Human Rights, OHS and Organisational Risk.

 

 

We also extend an apology to Jody Saxton Barney whose information we published last week was out of date. Jody is a Deaf Indigenous Community Consultant who represents Indigenous Deaf people on over twelve boards, committees and councils. 

 

 

Jody Saxton- Barney

 

Jody Saxton – Barney is a Deaf Indigenous Community Consultant who works from a principle of “Giving the Community a Voice”. Jody comes with over 23 years experience working in many areas of needs and continues this work to ensure there is current and precise information that will support, nurture and educate people. 

 

The consultancy has established networks that expand each state and territory and is in contact with over 12,000 Deaf Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The service provides services and is independently operated and uses a culturally appropriate framework to engage, encourage and enhance the communication and access for Indigenous Australians with hearing loss & disabilities at all levels.  She works to influence all parties to work together to improve the access and outcomes for Indigenous Deaf people and their families whilst staying in their communities.

 

Jody represents Indigenous Deaf people on over twelve boards, committees and councils. These include Victoria Equal Opportunity Human Rights Commission (Disability Reference Group). VEOHRC Reference Group for Attorney General’s report on rights for Youth and Children, Victorian Disability Advisory Council (council member) and the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Disability Network (Victorian Representative) and the list goes on.....
